Counter Culture

coun·ter·cul·ture   ˈkoun(t)ərˌkəlCHər/ noun: counter-culture
a way of life and set of attitudes opposed to or at variance with the prevailing social norm.

I would venture to say that NO ONE who is working in a faith building context with the kids of this generation will NOT say it is an uphill battle.  Yes, I could have said that without using the double negative for effect: EVERYONE who is working in a faith-building context with the kids of this generation WOULD say that it is an uphill battle.
Mixed messages, bold faced lies of the world, inconsistent modeling from leaders, “me first” and “what’s in it for me” attitudes, and the list could go on and on.  These are all the norm.  Add to this the rapid pace of technology, globalization, and the ease of access to the internet and you have a recipe for a generational meltdown of faith among today’s young people.  This is something we are seeing now… in this generation… in this community.
Question: Is this unique to now… to this generation… to this community?  And, more importantly, what can we do about it?

We say raise up a generation of
WORLD CHANGERS!

World changers turn the world upside down and what could be more counter culture than that? Consider Acts 17:6-7 ESV "These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also… and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus."
Sometimes lifting Jesus up as king means going against the norm.  It takes being counter-cultural and developing a way of life and set of attitudes opposed to or at variance with the prevailing social norm.  It takes raising up WORLD CHANGERS who then end up “turning the world upside down”.
That is why we’re here.  That is what we do.
That is why we love all of you so much, because you make it happen.
We never tire of telling you how much we love you and how grateful we are for each of you.
Please keep us in prayer as we run hard through this Spring Semester.  Every week we are seeing kids we have not seen since the Pandemic started a year ago.  They are coming back and it is so great to see them!!!
We are still here, “Taking JESUS to neighborhood children, youth and families”.
